Hello lovelies! My name is Jess and I’m so glad that you’re here!
A little about me…I live in Texas in a small town between Austin and San Antonio. I’ve been here for just over two years and moved to be closer to my boyfriend, Jason and his son, Jacob. (Yep, we’re all J’s.) We have two dogs, Lydi and Gracie that make me crazy and make me laugh every day!
I moved here from Tucson, AZ where I spent my childhood and early adult years. I loved Tucson and my desert home, but adventure is in my blood and after 25 years of the same old worn out stomping places and sunburns, I needed a change. Moving to Texas was one of the best, craziest, scariest, most rewarding decisions I have ever made and it has given me a new lease on life.
I decided to start Once Unwritten after much nagging and pestering from my family and friends. I swear, they were not going to let me NOT write, so I got brave and decided that the worst that could happen is that all of them would hate it. Once I realized that this was something I wanted to do, the decision was easy, but the challenge…woah, that was something else entirely.
As anyone who knows me can attest, I get bored easily and constantly need a challenge. Writing is something I am told I am good at, but there is more to me than my words. I love reading and teaching kids how to read. I love giving my time and resources to causes I care about. I love finding ways to support, encourage and coach my friends and family. This blog is a culmination of all of the things that have made me who I am today.
I have no intention of making this a “me” fest, but after many failed attempts at writing this section, I had to put something down and make it stick (or someone else was going to write it for me, and truth be told, I was a little scared what they were going to say!)
If there’s one thing I will promise about this blog it’s this: I promise to be honest and transparent and to cover important topics and issues with integrity. What I can’t promise? All the rest. I hope that’s okay with you. (Just being honest with you, lovelies.)
Until next time!
